Mount versions

Overview

This document outlines the mounting options necessary for ensuring the sensor's stability and optimal performance. The mounting is essential for securely attaching the sensor in a stable, vertical orientation, which must be maintained even when subjected to external stimuli, such as the movement of people or materials. Our mounting solutions support multiple sensor types including Air+, AirPro+ Net Radiometer+, Pixel+, Soil Pro+, and Dry Air+, and can be used for both ground-level and overhead installations.

If the sensor is installed at ground level, ensure it is never placed directly on the greenhouse soil. The lower mechanism requires ventilation and can be damaged by excess water and lack of airflow from below.

Mounting Options

The installation could be completed with two height options, allowing placement at both ground level and overhead:

  • Setup for ground level installation:
    • Tripod
  • Setup for aerial installation:
    • Metal mount + Magnet attachment: attaches directly to metal surfaces using a strong magnet
    • Metal mount + Clamp attachment: attaches by clamping onto beams or frames

Secure vertical mounting is essential for proper sensor operation.

1. Tripod

For swift installation on flat surfaces, utilize the tripod. This specially designed base ensures the sensor is held firmly while allowing for bottom ventilation.

To provide maximum stability and ensure proper airflow beneath the device, the sensor is mounted on a tripod base. Using a 1/4" screw, the sensor attaches to the tripod at an ideal height for ventilation. This tripod features a compact or removable mounting plate to prevent interference with the bottom fan and is capable of supporting up to 1 kg. Examples of a camera tripod and a base design that facilitates lower sensor ventilation are showed in the following images.

Tripod connection

All the sensors units features an integrated brass threaded insert located on the bottom corner of the housing (case), as shown in the image. This is designed for a secure, mechanical connection to to the tripod mounting.

The tripod screw must be fully threaded into the brass insert. A friction-fit or "placement" is not sufficient; the screw must be rotated until snug to ensure the unit is locked in place.

2. Metal Mounts

The metal mounts provide aerial support for sensor installation, featuring two distinct ends: one designed to secure the sensor (holding the sensor or U-Bracket), and the other to hold all the mechanism. A detailed explanation of each end follows.

Before discussing the specifics, note that the devices can be installed in two orientations:

  1. The external solar panel faces away from the mount base.
  2. The external solar panel faces toward the mount base.

The sensor is secured by a metal holder featuring two arms (named as U-Bracket). These arms are designed to embed the sensor directly into the plastic injection case. At the end of each arm, a pair of hooks fits into the case, securing the sensor on both sides. The sensor mount is then fastened to the device using the side clips, as illustrated in the photos below.

This arm provides a mounting point for the sensor, allowing it to pivot or be fixed at a specific angle.

Attachment mechanism

This is where the two metal mounts differ: in their mechanism for supporting the entire assembly (sensor + arm) overhead.

This end component secures the arm containing the embedded sensor. The two metal mounting bases, which support the overhead sensor and arm assembly, come in two different types, each one with a different metal support mechanism: magnet or clamp.

Both models utilize a high-quality metal mount, differing only in their attachment mechanism: a magnetic base for ferrous surfaces or a mechanical clamp for edges and non-magnetic structures. Customers must choose between the magnet or clamp option at the time of purchase. These configurations are not interchangeable, and both options are not included as a kit.

Clamp

The clamp is composed of two pieces secured by screws and nuts. This design allows it to be fastened to cylindrical objects, such as a pipe or post.
