Let's first go over what is in each Sigrow kit:
- Central Station – This is the gateway of your kit. It collects data from your sensors and sends it to the cloud using mobile data.
- Sensors – Although we call them sensors, each unit actually combines multiple types of sensors in one device. Depending on the model, they measure various light, air, and soil variables. The sensors take measurements automatically at their scheduled intervals, so there’s no need for pairing or activation — just recharge them if the battery runs low. Data is transmitted wirelessly to the Central Station via LoRa radio.
- Sigrow Web App – You can access all your data through the Sigrow Web App. Your login credentials were provided in your order shipping confirmation email.
1. Pre-installation check
Before installing your sensors in the more remote areas of your facility, we recommend testing connectivity and configuration first. This ensures that all sensors are functioning correctly. That way, if a sensor doesn’t report in the app once placed in its intended location, you’ll know the issue is likely due to distance or signal interference rather than a configuration problem.
Steps to test your setup:
- Place the Central Station and all sensors close together.
- Plug in the Central Station — the LED will light up magenta and/or green.
- Wait at least 15 minutes (up to 1 hour) for the LED to turn blue. Blue indicates that the Central Station is receiving messages from the sensors. If the light stays magenta or green, contact us at support@sigrow.com.
- Open the SIgrow app and confirm that sensor readings are updating (look for “uploaded x minutes ago” in the top-left corner of each sensor tile).
- If the Central Station is blue and the sensor readings are updating, your configuration is correct, and you can proceed with installing the sensors in their final locations.
2. Installation
To ensure a successful installation, there are two main aspects to focus on: connectivity and placement.
- Connectivity: Ensure that all devices can communicate with each other. Performing the connectivity and configuration check described in the installation checklist above will help confirm this.
- Placement: Position your sensors carefully to prevent damage and to ensure that the measurements you collect are accurate and meaningful for your intended purposes.
2.a. Connectivity
Every installation location is unique. Factors like walls, doors, and the materials they’re made of can affect how radio signals between your Central Station and sensors are absorbed or reflected. This signal absorption and reflection can reduce the overall distance that messages can travel.
📌 As a general guideline:
- Place sensors within a 500 m radius of the Central Station.
- For optimal reception, position the Central Station in direct line of sight with your sensors. Installing the Central Station at a higher position can also improve signal propagation throughout the greenhouse.
